Survey/Paid Sick Leave/Ex-Offenders

Yesterday, I went to see Selma.  A wonderful movie, but I was particularly taken by Dr. King's comments about speaking up.  He told the black community that if they wanted to have their voices heard they need to speak up.  Now I don’t want to equate the black struggle for voting rights with small business wanting their voices heard but the message is the same.  You need to speak up.

Please take a few minutes to complete the Small Business California survey if you have not already done so.  We will keep this open for a few weeks but we need to get more responses.  Below is the live link to the survey:

In the State of the Union speech, President Obama signaled his support of the Healthy Families Act.  This would provide 7 days paid sick leave for employees of businesses with 15 or more employees.  It would be earned at a rate of one hour for every thirty hours worked.

A topic of discussion has been to get businesses to hire ex-offenders.  There are tax breaks available to businesses that do so.  The question is, would you hire an ex-offender in your business?
